The for-sure disadvantage is that we will eventually run out. A possible disadvantage is that the CO2 produced by using such sources will change climate in an unfavorable way.

I think the biggest disadvantage is that it gives the scum of the world billions of dollars to spend on military technologies. Back in the 30′s popular mechanics magizine had an article saying the hemp would make petroleum obsolete so america decided it was for the best to make it illegal and fight wars over the remaining supplyies of oil. Hemp can make 4 times as much ethonal per acre than corn and you can make paper with the same crop which would save trees
