The first hearing of the year held by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee was to focus on the research and development priorities for 2010, but several senators used the time to ask Energy Secretary Steven Chu about capping carbon emissions and nuclear waste. Several senators expressed concern over the amount of time it has taken Chu to appoint a his promised blue ribbon panel to deal with nuclear waste.
